Therapy Changes Welcomes Dr. Melissa Kae
By: Melissa Kae, Psy.D. | September 11, 2026

I am honored and deeply grateful to join the Therapy Changes team and work alongside such a skilled group of psychologists! I believe that collaboration with colleagues leads to the best care for my clients, and I’m excited to be part of a practice that shares this commitment.
When difficult experiences remain unprocessed, the mind can get stuck, replaying old pain, triggering familiar reactions, and leaving us feeling overwhelmed by circumstances that echo the past. In these moments, it’s common to feel isolated, as though the weight of unresolved memories is ours to carry alone.
Healing is possible, and finding a path toward adaptive resolution begins with the right kind of support. I’m committed to walking alongside you, creating a safe and compassionate space where we can work together to process what feels stuck. The process of healing and growth doesn’t have to be a journey you face alone.
My Philosophy
My goal is to offer a safe, inclusive space where clients of all identities and backgrounds feel seen, supported, and empowered to heal. No matter what brought you here, whether you’re struggling with anxiety, trauma, a difficult family history, or questions about your identity, I want you to know there’s room for all of it, and for you exactly as you are.
I believe therapy should be tailored to you. That means taking a collaborative, strength-based approach that honors your unique personality, values, and life experiences rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. My work is grounded in evidence-based practices, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, cognitive and mindfulness-based techniques, and trauma-informed care that carefully attends to the nervous system and the relationship between mind and body.
Together, we’ll explore the underlying factors contributing to your distress, whether they involve painful thought patterns, overwhelming emotions, unresolved trauma, or questions about identity. Together we’ll build insight, resilience, and develop practical tools you need to move forward with greater confidence and intention.
Clients often seek my support for:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Perfectionism
- Healing from family dysfunction
- Trauma recovery
- Navigating LGBTQIA+ identity development
- Self-acceptance
- Improving emotional regulation
- Strengthening relationships
- Creating a life that feels more authentic, intentional, and aligned with their values
My Clinical Background
My clinical background spans a wide range of settings and populations, including inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, residential treatment programs, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, and work with justice-involved individuals and those experiencing homelessness. I’ve had the privilege of working with adults, older adults, adolescents, veterans, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as individuals navigating complex life transitions and systemic challenges.
These experiences have shaped a practice that is deeply trauma-aware and socially conscious, particularly when supporting clients from marginalized and underserved communities. I don’t take lightly the courage it takes to walk into a therapy space, especially when the world hasn’t always felt safe or welcoming. I carry that awareness into every session, striving to create an environment where you feel respected, understood, and empowered to heal.
A Bit About Me
Outside of the therapy room, I’m a cisgender woman (she/her) who loves sports, travel, and woodworking. Most days you’ll also find me spending time with my sweet dog Rooster, a “career-changed” guide dog with a heart of gold.
I love connecting with people who embrace curiosity, humor, and a genuine desire for growth and self-exploration. If that sounds like you, I’d be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
Let’s Get Started
Healing isn’t linear, and it doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens through connection, and with the right support, the right tools, and a space where you don’t have to explain or justify who you are.
My hope is to provide that space: one where you feel safe, supported, and empowered to move toward the life that you want to create that’s uniquely right for you.
If you’re ready to take the next step, I’d love the opportunity to work with you. Connect With Us and get started today.
