Perinatal Mental Health

Welcoming a baby into the world is a significant life transition and a natural period of adjustment.

During this time, it is common to experience physical and emotional changes including sadness, irritability, worry, anxiety, and unhappiness. These symptoms, often referred to as the “baby blues,” are experienced by 50 – 80% of new mothers. With time, patience, good self-care, and positive support, symptoms will often fluctuate and dissipate within a few weeks. If symptoms persist or worsen this could be a sign of something more serious.

This screening tool will help you identify risk factors of mood and anxiety disorders during, and after pregnancy:

Additional support and valuable information is available through Postpartum Support International and the Postpartum Health Alliance.
