Jennifer McWaters, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in California providing therapeutic services to teens and adults. Dr. McWaters utilizes a strengths-based, collaborative approach in therapy tailored to each client’s needs. Dr. McWaters believes that it is important to explore and address other life areas that impact mental health, including nutrition, physical movement, and sleep. Clients working with Dr. McWaters will find her style to be interactive, warm, and focused on empowering clients to take action, reach their goals, and achieve overall wellness.
Areas of Specialization
Dr. McWaters’ evidence-based approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as other skills-based approaches (such as DBT and CBT). Dr. McWaters is passionate about helping clients improve their relationships and quality of life, by helping them align their actions with what they value and who they want to be. In order to help clients meet their goals, therapy may include aspects of coaching and direct feedback, in order to facilitate transparency, accountability, and empowering ownership of one’s own progress.
Dr. McWaters has a special interest in working with clients working through major life transitions, including students, college-age, young adults, and adults working through career, life stage, and relationship changes. She also enjoys supporting women struggling with anxiety and who are navigating relationship or communication issues. In addition, Dr. McWaters has specialized training in integrative mental health as well as in working with faith-based clients. Dr. McWaters utilizes a holistic lens to consider the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each client.
