Kamaljit Virdi, Ph.D.

Kamaljit “Sonya” Virdi, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in California providing professional psychological services to adults and emerging adults. Dr. Virdi practices a collaborative and integrative therapeutic approach informed by Interpersonal Process, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies. Her primary goal when working with clients is to foster a genuine therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect. To fully understand her client’s internal world and the challenges they face, Dr. Virdi considers each individual’s cultural context and personal circumstance, as well as relevant systemic issues. Dr. Virdi’s interest in diversity is multi-layered and deeply personal. As a South Asian American woman, her bicultural identity is one that includes both Eastern and Western influences. As such, she often uses mindfulness and meditation in her work with clients as a way of helping clients reconnect with their true inner selves.

Areas of Specialization
Dr. Virdi has experience working with a diverse group of individuals including students, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and Veterans. Her areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, grief and loss, multicultural/diversity issues, relationship concerns, sexual assault, and trauma. Dr. Virdi is passionate about helping her clients understand more about themselves, clarify their values, and build a sense of self-worth so they can live a life rich with purpose and meaning. In addition, Dr. Virdi seeks to help reduce guilt and shame around stigma and help-seeking among underrepresented groups.

Dr. Virdi provides therapy services in English. She is conversational in Punjabi and understands basic Hindi.
